In bonte samenhang. De veelzijdige eenheid in Triumphus Cupidinus (1628)

Abstract -- Triumphus Cupidinis (1628) by Ysermans is often read in the light of Triumphus Jesu (1633), the explicit response to Ysermans's collection by a nun. In comparison with Triumphus Jesu, Triumphus Cupidinis can be perceived as a collection of light-hearted poems and songs. However, the character of Triumphus Cupidinis is versatile. In this article, I will read Triumphus Cupidinis as a careful composed entity and unity, arguing that the volume presents an interesting combination of different - and sometimes contradicting - literary themes and conventions, which are all together tuned towards a plea for the reflection on one's moral behaviour and religious practice.
